A prototype website for Expedition Science, a program designed to bring “real world” ecology research, engaging biology content, and environmental awareness to the public. The site will be a free resource designed specifically for facilitators of after-school programs, such as 4-H and Boys and Girls Club, but it will also include interactive, instructional activities for children UX.
The design team used UCM and ADDIE to develop the prototype website and instructional activities. Through the use of moderated usability testing, personas, content inventory and audit, we created an information architecture to visualize the website structure and make necessary changes for the prototype. We analyzed user testing data to support user navigation and increase accessibility for targeted audience groups to enhance their user experience.
As project manager and lead designer, Kate opted to use Adobe Xd to produce a wireframe and high-fidelity prototype and Asana as our project management software. Our wireframe consisted of 166 pages and was built with interactions, whereas, our final, data-driven prototype consists of 171 pages. The site incorporates numerous design concepts such as, nesting, visual hierarchies, accessibility, signifiers, repetition, alignment, and proximity.
